There are currently two types of wallets on the Ether-1 platform: Web Wallets and Desktop Wallets. This guide will discuss the Windows Desktop Wallet. If you are just starting out, there are video tutorials provided below from our community members.
Click on DESKTOP WALLET (WINDOWS) (figure 1)
After Download is complete, open File Explorer/Downloads and double click on the downloaded file. (If you get the “Windows protected your PC” pop up, click on “More info” and click on the Run anyway button.
When the following “Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?” window pops up, click Yes.
Review License agreement and click I agree.
Choose Wallet Location. Choose Folder and click Next.
Choose Blockchain Folder. Choose Folder and click Install.
Upon Installation completion click Close.
Go to Desktop and double click the Ether1 Wallet shortcut
Install window will appear followed by the Windows Defender Firewall Popup. Click Allow Access
Syncing will begin. This will take some time. Leave the wallet running until synchronization completes.
Wallet will automatically launch when the blockchain is synced. If it doesn’t, click on Launch Application once the sync bar is full.
Creating an account is a relatively straight forward process. However it is imperative that you save and backup your password, keystore and private keys. If you lose them, you will lose access to your ETHO. At present there is no way to reinstate a holder's account once access has been lost. It is recommended to back them up on Password Managers, Flash Drives, and a paper copy. Also, no one at Ether-1 will ever ask you for your password, private key or Keystore File nor should you ever share it.
Click on ADD ACCOUNT
Enter a strong password
Repeat same password
A GENERATING ACCOUNT window will pop up, followed by an advisory pop up for backing up your keyfiles and password. Click OK
You will now see ACCOUNT 1 with 0.00 ETHO and an address. This will be your address to receive ETHO into this account. Be sure to only use it for ETHO!
You can edit your account name by clicking on Account 1. A new window will open. Hover and Click on the pencil to rename as desired.
On the right side of the wallet, you can use Copy address and Show QR Code Use WALLETS to return to main wallet page Use SEND for sending transactions Use CONTRACTS to create smart contracts on the ETHO blockchain. Scroll down to view transaction history.
To create a new wallet address just simply click on ADD ACCOUNT and repeat steps 1 thru 4 above.
Now that your wallet is setup and running, you need to back it up. This is the most important step. Do this before adding funds to the account. If you cannot access your wallet you cannot access your ETHO. It is strongly recommended to use both digital and manual means. Use Password Managers, USB Flash Drives and/or good ol' pen and paper.
In this section, we will perform the following 2 steps:
back up your keystore folder
retrieve and save your private key
The Keystore Folder is an encrypted file to access your Private key. It is a JSON file. It contains files named "UTC--2018-11-26...". Note: There will be a separate file for each Account Address you create. Remember to back up each time you create a new address.
Insert a USB flash drive. Click on New folder and name it such as "Ether-1".
In your Ether-1 wallet on the top-left corner, go to File/Backup/Accounts. This will open your Keystore Folder.
Right click the highlighted keystore folder, hover over Send to and choose your USB drive.
Go to your USB Drive and look for the keystore folder. Drag and drop it to your newly created "Ether-1" folder. You can repeat this process to save on to other USB Drives.
It is highly recommended to learn how to use the following program offline or in a secure platform such as Metamask. For the purpose of this guide, the following steps are being performed online.
Go to https://wallet.ether1.org/#view-wallet-info/. Click on Keystore / JSON File then Select Wallet File.
Windows Explorer should automatically direct you to the UTC File inside your Keystore Folder located at C:\Users("Your PC name")\AppData\Roaming\Ether1\keystore. Double-click the UTC file.
You will now be prompted to enter your password. (This is the password you originally created in step 2.2 above). Enter password and click UNLOCK.
The View Wallet Info page will appear. Here you will see all details of your wallet including: Address, Private Key, QR code as well as balance and transaction history. You can also send ETHO from here. To view your private key, click on the eye symbol.
It is recommended to both copy this information down digitally and manually and store in a safe location. (writing and storing your wallet address, password, keystore and private key together is a good idea.)
Simply close the window to exit the wallet.
Privacy is of utmost importance with digital currencies. If someone gets your private key, your funds will be compromised. Keep all wallet information safe and secure. Also you can never have too many backups.
